Our story

Hi I’m Ayla, founder of Crown and Coils, and the face behind the brand. The inspiration behind Crown and Coils comes from my experience growing up surrounded by different hair textures within my family. Crown and Coils began when I was just 17, not as a business, but as a vision rooted in identity, confidence, and representation. I'm from a big family and we all have similar but uniquely different hair types and textures. My mum always says our identity is in our hair, and I truly believe that. Growing up, I embraced my natural curls, and I’ve been approached so many times by people complimenting my hair. Whether it’s at the local shop or even when I’ve been in another country, the recognition of my hair always makes me feel so proud of my mixed heritage roots.

One moment that really stuck with me was when I was out shopping with my mum, and a mum and with her little girl in her arms (she was probably about two) came jogging up to us, to grab my attention. The mum said they just wanted to tell me they loved my hair, and she explained that her daughter had similar curls and she wanted her to embrace her natural hair, just like I was. That moment was so empowering and beautiful it made me realise the impact of representation. It felt amazing to know that a little girl could look up to me and feel inspired to love everything natural about herself.

That’s what Crown and Coils is all about, helping people embrace their natural beauty, no matter their hair type, and making them feel proud of their identity. It’s more than just selling products; it’s about building confidence, representation, and community.
